Based on „Hangover II“
Bangkok offers you nothing but crazy unforgettable experiences. And what movie captured it better than Hangover 2? Like Mr. Chow already said: „We had a sick night bitches, don’t you remember anything?“. If you really want know, what happened to the Wolfpack, consisting of Alan, Doug, Stu, Phil and Mr. Chow, during their stay in Bangkok, let’s go and visit the hangover trail for a unique night nobody will forget!
Starting off the tour at the famous and beautiful wedding setting, which took place in Krabi, the Southern area of Thailand, you should start to relax a few days at the stunning beach. And make sure, you will stay at the „Phulay Bay Ritz Carlton“ since this was the resort where the film took place and it’s only a 20 minute drive from Ao Nang. For Hangover II, this resort is not meant to cause adventures but more tranquility in order to contrast the insanity that’s about to come later. At least Doug could party hard in comfort rather than being chained to a roof in Las Vegas and got the hardest sunburn ;).
Afterwards, your hangover trip progresses in Bangkok, the major city of Thailand with all its freaky facets, beautiful women, stunning nightlife and delicious food. The famous scene of the wolfpack using Mr. Chow´s speedboat on the Chao Phraya river to get back to Krabi in a couple hours is really funny, but sadly impossible at least you want to drive all the way down the coast of Thailand, then down past Malaysia, then around Singapore and back up the western coastline of Malaysia, back into Thailand and et voila, you arrived Krabi in about a week ;). In reality, you should take the plane for an hour, but you can still rent a speedboat at the Chao Phraya river, which is located at the BTS Saphan Taksin. Exploring Bangkok from the water is a fascinating way to the spend your day and you’ll get a nice breeze on the water too.
After the amazing boat trip, you should make your way to Chinatown, where the guys were sharing a crowded street with an elephant. Unfortunately, elephants are nowadays banned from the city centre in Bangkok, but you can have a look at the amazing movie scene which was shot in Soi Phi Phaysa, Chinatown. This is the original heart of the city, where commerce grew up around the Royal Palace fueled by Chinese immigrants and Chinatown still remains a vibrant metropole itself as a chaotic hub of commerce today. You’ll get an authentic crush of everyday life in Chinatown and it is really worth the trip!
Seeing Bangkok in the daytime is already exciting and great, but the nightlife is unstoppable and incomparable. Thailand’s capital city is truly two-faced: after the sun waves, Bangkok is turning into the biggest party you’ll ever enter! Now, it is time to follow the wolfpack and have a visit to the filming set where „Siam Sam’s“ was done, exactly at the exterior of the Cactus Bar at the scandalous but still fascinating Soi Cowboy, one of Bangkok’s main redlight districts, with Go-Go bars from wall to wall.
Following the bar-hopping, you should definitely have a visit to the Tilac Bar, with a large outside area where you can sit and relax watching the activities within the Soi. This relaxing atmosphere will fade after entering the Go-Go bar: you’ll be impressed by the layout with dancers on tables on both sides. Serving drinks all night long and with hot exotic girls dancing all around you, you might don’t want to leave anymore but don’t forget about the White Lion in Sukhumvit 7/1 which is in walking distance. Sadly, the bar was removed and instead there is now a hotel, but the Street is more low key than Soi Cowboy but still just as sleazy since it’s also called the „mini redlight district“.
But what would be a hangover tour in Bangkok without ladyboys, ping pong shows and lots of alcohol? The solution is called Patpong, it’s two parallel side-streets, found between Silom and Surawongse Roads, dozens of neon-lit strip bars offering naughty shows and the famous pole-dancing entertainment. The next unique stop of the hangover trail in Bangkok would be at Patpong’s King’s Castle III. On average, they speak good english which allows you to have „real“ conversations. And one tip, have a closer look, some Thai Lady Boys are incredible feminine and beautiful, otherwise you’ll be surprised like Stu who had a sexual encounter with a ladyboy ;).
The perfect end of this trail would be Bangkok’s high-end Sirocco restaurant on the 64th floor of the luxury hotel „Lebua at State Tower“, which provides the most stunning view all over Bangkok and was the site of several key scenes in the movie, since it is named one of the best rooftop bars worldwide. Get yourself a drink, sit down, relax and enjoy the stunning view.
So if you’re interested in actually going to any of these Hangover II stops, they’re all fairly central and quite easy to move between on the BTS Skytrain and a couple of taxi rides. You can either reach them all by yourself, but there are also a lot of providers that offer a Hangover II tour, including pick-up, a travel guide and some free drinks.
After experiencing the same stunning night like the Alan, Phil, Stu, Doug and Mr. Chow, you’ll probably wake up with your biggest hangover ever, but as Phil already summarized it, it is because „we had a great fucking time!“. With this in mind, pack your staff and get a memory you’ll never forget – ever!
